IQ Test

Estimate your reasoning ability with an original, timed test spanning pattern, number, verbal, and spatial puzzles.

No data sent or stored

Completely FREE IQ Test. No signup, no email, no credit card. Instant results, no catch. Answer a set of original reasoning puzzles and get an instant estimate of your problem-solving ability, with a breakdown by reasoning type β€” all in your browser, nothing to install, nothing saved.

The test takes most people about 20 minutes and covers four families of reasoning that genuine intelligence research relies on: number and series problems, verbal relationships, logical deduction, and visual pattern and rotation puzzles. Every item was written for this site, so you are not looking at questions leaked from any commercial test.

What this IQ test actually measures

Psychologists generally split intelligence into two broad kinds. Fluid reasoning is your ability to solve a brand-new problem you have never seen before β€” spotting the rule behind a pattern, holding several conditions in mind at once, and drawing a valid conclusion. Crystallised knowledge is what you have already learned: vocabulary, facts, and procedures. Short online tests are best at sampling the fluid side, because fluid problems do not depend on your schooling or background as heavily.

This test leans on the item formats that appear across reputable cognitive assessments β€” matrix completion, number series, verbal analogies, odd-one-out classification, syllogism-style deduction, and mental rotation. Those formats are the shared vocabulary of the field and are not owned by any one publisher. What is protected is the specific wording and artwork of published tests, so none of that is reproduced here. Each question below was authored from scratch.

The four reasoning types you will see

Number & series. You are shown a sequence such as 2, 6, 12, 20 and asked what comes next. The skill is inductive: you infer the hidden rule (here, the gaps grow by two each step) and extend it. These reward flexible arithmetic thinking rather than memorised math.

Verbal reasoning. Analogies ("hand is to glove as foot is to …") test whether you can identify the relationship between two things and apply it to a new pair. Odd-one-out items check whether you can spot the category that ties several items together and find the one that breaks it.

Logical reasoning. Short deductions ask you to judge whether a conclusion truly follows from its premises. Many of them are deliberately tempting: a statement can sound right and still be an invalid inference. This is the part that most resembles everyday careful thinking.

Pattern & spatial. Matrix puzzles present a three-by-three grid with one cell missing; you choose the figure that completes the pattern in both directions. Mental-rotation items ask which option is the same shape simply turned, rather than flipped into a mirror image. This family is the closest thing to a pure fluid-reasoning measure.

How your score is estimated

Each question is worth one point, and your raw score is converted to an estimated band on a familiar 100-centred scale, where 100 represents an average result on this particular test. You also get a percentile estimate and a breakdown showing how many you answered correctly in each of the four reasoning types.

Be clear-eyed about what that number is. A real IQ score comes from a standardised test administered one-to-one by a trained professional and compared against a large, carefully sampled population. This test does neither. Its score is an unnormed self-assessment estimate β€” a reasonable indicator of how your pattern-based reasoning is running today, useful for practice and curiosity, but not a diagnosis and not a certified figure to put on a form.

How to get the most accurate result

Find a quiet spot and give the test your full attention. Do not use a calculator, search the answers, or ask anyone for help β€” every one of those inflates the number and makes the breakdown meaningless. There is a gentle 25-minute timer; work steadily rather than racing. If a question stumps you, make your best reasoned guess and move on, because a blank counts the same as a wrong answer. Fatigue, stress, and distraction all pull scores down, so a single sitting on a fresh mind is your best measure.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free? Completely. There is no sign-up, no email, no credit card, and no paywall hiding your result. The full score and breakdown appear the moment you finish.

Do you store my answers? No. The whole test runs in your browser. Nothing you click is uploaded, and refreshing the page erases everything β€” there is no account and no server that could keep it.

Can I retake it? Yes. Retaking reshuffles both the question order and the answer choices. Because you will start to recognise items, later attempts tend to overstate your ability, so treat your first honest run as the most meaningful.

Is this an official IQ test? No, and any free online test that claims to be is overstating itself. Use this for insight and practice. If you need an official assessment β€” for school, work, or clinical reasons β€” see a licensed psychologist who can administer a normed instrument.

Important

This is an unnormed, self-scored reasoning estimate for personal interest and practice, not a clinically administered or professionally normed IQ test. It cannot diagnose anything, and the score is an approximation, not a certified measurement. For an official assessment, consult a licensed psychologist.
