Musical Typing

Type a home-row-to-whole-keyboard drill while each keystroke plays the next note of a public-domain tune.

Free Musical Typing game — no sign-up, no download, no catch. Type the note letters and a real melody plays back, one note per keystroke. Every letter from c to b is a musical note, so hitting them in order plays a tune you already know — a surprisingly relaxing way to learn where the keys are.

Pick a song, and the next note lights up. Press that letter to play it and move to the next. It is gentle, ear-pleasing key practice with an instant reward for every correct press.

How to play

Turn your sound on and choose a tune. The highlighted note shows which letter comes next — press it and you will hear the note play as the highlight advances. A wrong letter gives a soft buzz and the note waits for you, so there is no way to fail; you simply play the melody at your own pace. Only seven keys are used (c d e f g a b), which keeps it approachable for complete beginners.

What it trains

Because each note is tied to a specific letter, your fingers learn to find those keys by feel, guided by your ear instead of your eyes. The steady, rewarding feedback loop — press a key, hear the right note — builds the same key-location memory that fast typing depends on, without any pressure. It is a lovely way to warm up before a typing test or to take a calm break that still counts as practice.

About the songs

All the melodies are well-known public-domain classics — nursery and folk tunes like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Row, Row, Row Your Boat. We deliberately do not include copyrighted video-game or pop themes. The letters you type are the actual note names, so the pitch you hear matches the tune you know.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free? Yes. No sign-up, no email, no download, and no paywall.

Do you store anything I do? No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. There is no account and no server keeping a record.

Why only the letters c to b? Those seven letters are the musical notes, so typing them plays real pitches. It keeps the game simple and musical while still training key location.

I hear no sound — what is wrong? Make sure your device is not muted and your browser has permission to play audio. The first note plays right after you pick a song, which counts as the tap that unlocks sound.

Important

Musical Typing is a free typing game for practice and fun. Melodies are public-domain classics. It is a learning aid, not a formal typing certification, and nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
