Completely FREE square footage calculator. No signup, instant answers. Enter a length and a width to get the area — and each side can be measured in its own unit. Measure one side in centimeters and the other in meters, or mix feet with inches, and the calculator still gives you a correct square footage.

Why the length and width have separate unit dropdowns
Real measurements rarely arrive in matching units. A room might be measured in feet and inches with a tape measure, while a tile or fabric spec sheet lists centimeters and meters. Rather than forcing you to convert one side by hand before you can multiply, this calculator lets the length and width each use whatever unit you measured them in — millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers, inches, feet, yards, or miles — and converts both to a common unit internally before multiplying.
How the area is calculated
Area is simply length × width, but only once both sides are in the same unit. The calculator converts your length and width to meters, multiplies them to get square meters, then converts that result into every other common area unit: square feet, square inches, square yards, square centimeters, square millimeters, acres, and hectares. Square footage — the figure most home, flooring, and real estate questions actually want — is shown first.
Reading the feet-and-inches breakdown
Below the area totals, each side is also echoed as a feet-and-inches length (for example, 3 meters shows as 9′ 10.1″) so you can sanity-check the conversion against a tape measure, not just trust the math. This is the piece that matters most when one side came in centimeters or meters and you need to describe the space in feet and inches for a contractor, a listing, or a flooring order.
Common uses
Flooring, carpet, and tile orders that need square footage from room dimensions; converting a European or metric spec sheet (cm, m) into the square feet a US supplier quotes; estimating paint or wallpaper coverage; checking a listed square footage against your own tape-measure numbers; and schoolwork or DIY projects that mix metric and imperial measurements.
Runs entirely in your browser
As with everything on this site, the math happens instantly in your browser as you type. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere. For a single unit-to-unit conversion without multiplying two sides together, use the Length Unit Converter instead.
Frequently asked questions
Can the length and width really be in different units?
Yes. Each has its own unit dropdown. Set the length to centimeters and the width to meters (or any other combination) and the calculator converts both to a common unit before multiplying, so the area comes out correct.
How do I convert square meters to square feet?
Enter your length and width in meters (or any units) and read the "Square feet (sq ft)" row in the results. One square meter equals about 10.7639 square feet, and the calculator applies that conversion automatically.
What is 10 feet by 12 feet in square footage?
Set the length to 10 and the width to 12, both in feet, and the headline result shows 120 square feet.
Does this handle acres or hectares?
Yes — the results grid includes acres and hectares alongside square feet, square meters, square yards, square inches, square centimeters, and square millimeters, so one calculation covers nearly every unit you're likely to need.
